Solution in sight for short merge lane Shannon Woodward, Rocky View Publishing Rocky View residents will be happy to hear that Alberta Transportation will address concerns surrounding an unusually short northbound merge lane from Stoney Trail onto Highway 2. Olivier Lahey, operations manager with Alberta Transportation, said there are plans to address this issue during the upcoming construction season. "It’s not going to be the final configuration that’s out there right now. There still is going to be construction where they’re going to extend the merge lane so there’s more time for people to actually merge in with traffic," he said. According to Lahey, an underground railway tunnel north of the intersection is the root of the problem and improvements to the tunnel were necessary before the merge lane could be extended. "I know it’s something that they’re very aware of and something that was going to be fixed this construction season." Until the merge lane is complete, an 80 kilometre per hour speed limit and posted signs are in place to help monitor the junction, he added.
