Rocky View School Division news
School infrastructure, maintenance and renewal projects approved
Liz Lindgren-Kubitz

Rocky View School Division (RVSD) identified and approved $3.2 million for infrastructure, maintenance and renewal (IMR) projects for district schools in 2008/2009.

Each year Alberta Education makes funds available for facility maintenance and renewal projects. The provincial 2007/08 allocation for the division’s IMR projects was about $2.3 million. RVSD has not been advised of the 2008/09 allocation, but used a slightly increased figure of $2.35 million for initial budget planning.

On Jan. 29, the board of trustees allocated up to $700,000 per year for re-roofing projects and up to $350,000 per year for re-flooring projects subject to annual board approval of specific projects. At its Feb. 7, and March 6 meetings the board approved allocating $625,056 to re-roofing projects at Kathyrn School, Springbank Middle School, Muriel Clayton School and Manachaban School.

Therefore, from the 2008/09 Alberta Education allocation of IMR monies there is $1,724,944 available for needed maintenance and renewal projects. RVSD also has not spent $813,175 from previous years’ IMR allocations, so it predicts having approximately $3,163,175 available this year.

A list of recommended IMR projects, totaling $3,192,630, was approved by the board of trustees at its regular board meeting on June 19. For a listing of all IMR projects that have been identified for individual schools visit: www.rockyview.ab.ca
